German graphic artist and professor of art history and education at the Munich Academy of Art. A prolific author and illustrator, his best known works are color woodcuts of the Bible. His style does not belong to any established artistic school, nor does he use traditional iconographic elements, but attempts to communicate religious ideas by way of his personal imagination.
