Israeli naïve painter. Born to a Hasidic family that settled in Safed in the 18th century, he made his living as a sign painter and tinker until his workshop was destroyed during the War of Independence in 1948. From that time, he began painting biblical and other Jewish subjects, portraying ancient events in the context of 19th and 20th century Jewish life in the Galilee town of the mystics.
