נזיר בן מסדר השתקנים במנזר של גטסמני, קנטאקי. מרטון הוא אחד הסופרים הקתוליים החשובים במאה העשרים. כתביו כוללים קלאסיקות כגון 'ההר בעל שבע הקומות', 'זרעים חדשים של התבוננות', ו'תורת הזן וציפורי התיאבון'. מרטון כתב יותר משבעים ספרים הכוללים שירה, יומנים אישיים, אוספי מכתבים, ביקורת חברתית, וכתבים על שלום, צדק ואקומניות.


American writer, poet, author and social activist. A Trappist monk of the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, in Kentucky, Merton was one of the most influential Catholic authors of the 20th century. His writings include such classics as The Seven Storey Mountain, New Seeds of Contemplation, and Zen and the Birds of Appetite. Merton is the author of more than seventy books that include poetry, personal journals, collections of letters, social criticism and writings on peace, justice and ecumenism.
