Contemporary American sculptor, mask performance artist, print maker, painter, lecturer, and workshop leader. Much of her inspiration derives from her personal experiences with world cultures, based on her extensive travels in Africa, India, Nepal, the Balkans, Spain and other areas. Benton welds her expressive and unique masks out of steel, sometimes coating them with bronze and uses them in performances that reclaim tales from worldwide sources, transforming them into personal and moving life stories. She also created series of monoprints on Indian, Hebrew, Medieval and Turkish miniature and manuscript painting, and has worked in 29 countries.
