Spanish surrealist painter and sculptor. Also worked in illustration, design, printing, and writing. An eccentric personality, he frequently came to public attention by way of the media. An early member of the surrealist movement, he was expelled as a result of his empathy for Fascism, but continued to paint in the surrealist style. In his paintings he created impossible worlds that combined reality and dream, the conscious and the sub-conscious, using precise perspective and design. Sex and paranoia are two of the leading motifs in his paintings.
