American photographer. A nature photographer for the Smithsonian Institution, Sandved is most well known for his twenty-six year project to discover all twenty-six letters of the Latin alphabet and European numerals (one through nine) on the wings of butterflies. He has authored and co-authored several books including The Butterfly Alphabet and The world of music: A treasury for listener and viewer.
