German Dadaist and surrealist artist. Following WWI, Ernst created the German Dada art movement along with Jean Arp and Alfred Grünwald. Constantly experimenting, he used many different techniques in his art, such as decalcomania, frottage, and grattage. After fleeing Europe during WWII, he helped inspire the development of abstract Expressionism in New York.
